There is one thing that newly engaged couples discover quickly, and it’s that weddings are expensive. The venue, flowers, food, DJ and photographer…and that doesn’t even include the dozens of unexpected items you will be paying for.

So naturally the question arises: “Can any of this be a tax write-off?”

LinkMy.Wedding has some good news: a few wedding-related expenses can be tax-deductible. Bad news: it’s not the ones you wish (sorry, the open bar does not qualify as “charitable giving,” even if your guests drink like they are supporting a cause.) 🍷🍻

Here’s what might count:

  • Venue fees (but only if it’s a Non-profit) – If you are getting married in a museum, historic site, church, or any nonprofit facility, part of your fee might be considered a donation.
  • Leftover food donations – If your caterer allows it (and why wouldn’t they, you are paying for the food), donating untouched leftovers to a qualified food bank can count as a charitable contribution…and it is great karma.
  • Flowers, decorations, and wedding attire – Donating items like your gown, decorations, or centerpieces to a charity may be deductible at fair market value, plus your flowers get a second life and your dress just doesn’t hang in a closet or sit in a box in the attic for decades.

Important things to know:

  • Keep excellent records: receipts and donation acknowledgements are vital; you must have documentation.
  • Tax laws shift: Some charitable rules change again in 2026, so stay updated with your state laws or talk with a CPA.

While LinkMy.Wedding knows that you can’t write off the whole wedding, you can capture a few deductions by donating thoughtfully. It’s good for your taxes, good for your community, and makes your wedding feel a little extra meaningful…. and that’s a win all around!
