In numerous Foxie blogs, we discussed things that you should do while sending business texts to entice customers to read them and respond accordingly. But what about the things you shouldn’t do?
Here are four common mistakes that could be costing you customers—and alienating your employees.
❌ Avoid Long, Complicated Conversations via Text
Texting (especially with Foxie, powered by FoxieEngage) is best for short, concise messages. If the conversation is likely to be lengthy, switch to a phone call or a face-to-face meeting.
Instead of:
“I have some serious questions about the report you sent over. It’s impossible to decipher.”
Try:
“Let’s schedule a meeting to discuss how I’d like to see the report going forward. What time works best for you?”
⏰ Don’t Text Outside Normal Business Hours
Be mindful of time zones and personal boundaries. Early morning, late-night, weekend, or holiday texts can come across as intrusive and unprofessional.
🛑 Avoid Unwanted or Irrelevant Messages
Over-messaging leads to customer fatigue—and unsubscribes. Make sure all of your texts offer value and are tailored to the recipient’s interests.
Instead of:
“Huge 50% off sale today, everything must go!” (sent to a disengaged customer)
Try:
“Hi John, you recently purchased __. Would you like to explore related products or accessories?”
📝 Always Proofread Before Hitting Send
Typos and grammar mistakes undermine your professionalism. Poorly written messages are more likely to be ignored—or marked as spam.
