Over the years, Foxie has shared plenty of tips on how to send business texts that grab the recipient’s attention and get results. But what about the texts you shouldn’t be sending?
By making just a few texting missteps, you could be chasing customers away…or making your employees groan and roll their eyes every time their phone buzzes with a text from you.
Here are four texting examples to avoid:
❌Complicated Conversations
Texts are meant to be a short and sweet form of communication. If a topic is going to require multiple long texts back and forth, it is best to schedule a phone call or a Zoom meeting.
Instead of:
“I really can’t read this report. Do you understand how to use excel?”
Try:
“Let’s schedule a meeting to discuss the report and how to make it more user friendly. What time works for you?”
⏰Texting at Weird Hours
If possible, avoid sending texts outside of normal business hours. Early mornings, late nights, weekends can seem intrusive. Respect your customers and employees’ personal space.
😡Unwanted or Repetitive Messages
Bombarding customers with the same or irrelevant texts leads to fatigue and unsubscribes. Try to tailor your messages to what the recipient wants to read.
Instead of:
“Huge 50% off sale tomorrow, everything must go!”
Try:
“Hi Mary, you recently purchased __. Interested in exploring related products?”
✅Skipping Proofreading
We have all seen typos in texts, and instantly thought “unprofessional,” followed by either deleting the text or reporting it as spam. A quick double-check…or a fresh set of eyes…before hitting send can save embarrassment and keep your messages effective.
