Before you assume they don’t want or need anything you have to offer, or think they may have moved to another planet, there are a few things you can do.

First, Don’t Give Up Too Quickly

Customers get busy, just like you and me. Emails get buried; phone calls get ignored (who answers phone calls from unknown numbers)? Sometimes people just need another reminder before making a decision.

A good follow-up strategy can help:

  1. Make following up easy – Don’t send a five-paragraph email when two sentences will do. Keep your message simple and make it easy for the customer to respond.
  2. Try a different communication method – Send texts! A short, friendly message can grab their attention without the customer having to dig through an inbox containing 4,000 unread emails.
  3. Give them a reason to respond – Provide something useful…a reminder, an update, an answer to a question, or a special offer.
  4. Don’t overdo it – Following up is important, but nobody wants to feel like they are being hunted down. Be persistent without becoming annoying.
