You got on an airplane, picked up your rental car and checked into your hotel. You put on some nice clothes, met a lot of interesting people, and learned some cool new things.
The conference ends and you go back to your hotel room. You take off your shoes, change clothes, and begin thinking about your trip back home and what faces when you get there. The kids, the dog, you need to do laundry and go to the store, etc.
Hold on. You just attended a conference that comes with expenses and your boss expects to see a return on his/her investment.
What can you do now to take everything you just learned, capitalize on the people you just met, and show your boss they made a great decision by sending you to attend this conference?
Here at Foxie, we have attended and presented at hundreds of conferences. We know what works and what doesn’t. Take 2 minutes to read the four steps that we have compiled that should be part of any post-conference process.
Get organized - Now is the time to review your notes and organize them. If you didn’t physically take notes, (you should have), now is the time to write down what you saw, who you spoke with, and any ideas you gathered from the conference.
Review all the conference materials – Download all conference information. Contact the event coordinator and ask them to email you a copy of the presentation. Take a moment to look over any handouts you kept and to see what kind of goodies you may have collected. Make a list of who you want to reach out to and formulate a plan.
Update your social media pages - Follow up on all the business cards you may have gathered within the first three days. Update your company’s pages. Reach out via LinkedIn to say hello and to reiterate it was nice speaking with them at the conference that you both just attended. Keep all your pages/websites updated to let them know what you are doing and what your product is all about. You will be amazed at how many of these contacts come in handy.
Share and apply your newfound knowledge – You need to share with your boss and co-workers who couldn’t attend the conference, what you learned. Put together a PowerPoint presentation and list all relevant information. Prepare an email with all relevant links. Make sure to peruse the conference’s website after the conference, as you will find contacts and links that will prove to be valuable.
At Foxie, we know the value a good conference provides when worked and attended the right way. It’s all about gathering contacts and building relationships. Our products at Foxie, especially FoxieEngage, are all about communicating efficiently and forging relationships.
