You have read our Foxie blogs and have seen numerous articles about things to make sure that you ARE doing when sending business texts. This blog will tell you about four major things that you should NOT be doing and how you could be losing customers and alienating employees if you are.
- Avoid long conversations/complex discussions – SMS (especially FoxieEngage, powered by Foxie) is a great way to communicate when you have something brief to convey. When you know it will be a long back-and-forth conversation, face-to-face or a phone call is a much better option.
Instead of sending this text:
“I have some serious questions about the report you sent over. It’s impossible to decipher.” (This will undoubtably turn into a back-and-forth banter with nothing getting resolved).
Send this:
“Let’s schedule a meeting to discuss how I’d like to see the report going forward. What time works for you?”
- Don’t send texts outside of normal business hours – Be respectful of your customers' time zones. Avoid sending text messages early in the morning, late at night, or on holidays and weekends. Foxie knows that your customers will perceive this as unprofessional and will be much less likely to respond.
- Don’t send unnecessary/unwanted texts – When you begin to overwhelm your customers with texts, it will become “white noise,” or they will unsubscribe.
Instead of sending this text:
“Huge 50% off sale today, everything must go!” (to a customer who hasn’t expressed interest in your sales).
Send this:
“Hi John... you recently purchased ______ and we were wondering if you’d like to explore similar products or accessories?”
- Don’t neglect to proofread before sending – Nothing screams UNPROFESSIONAL like misspelled words and grammatical errors. That is usually a dead giveaway that the company isn’t conscientious about what they are doing, and that text will be ignored...or even worse reported as “spam.”
When you are ready to get serious about your business texting, FoxieEngage is exactly what you and your business need.
