• Data collection at signup: Businesses will require you to provide personal information and most of us do so without blinking an eye. Your name, email, phone number, physical address...we willingly give them all this just because they asked for it.
• How you are tracked: Cookies, trackers and web beacons (tracking elements inside web pages to see where a person clicked or spent a lot of time). All of this is used to gather data about your interests and preferences.
• Your information is then sold to third parties: Your data is what companies want...it is the holy grail. It is sold to data brokers and analytics companies, who then use it to target you with advertising.
