How to Successfully Work from Home

The flexibility and freedom we have while working from home is undeniably appealing. Who doesn’t like rolling out of bed, walking to the kitchen in your shorts to grab a cup of coffee, and beginning your workday with the morning news on in the background?

The problem is you are supposed to be working. Distractions lurk around every corner. Kids, pets, household chores, social media…these can all be detrimental to your production.

This is why Foxie has compiled some tips to help you stay laser-focused while working from home.

Create a dedicated workspace

  • Designate a specific area of your house that is solely for work.
  • Keep your space organized and well-lit.
  • Advise family or roommates that this is your office, and you are working.

Establish a routine

  • Set consistent work hours and stick to them as closely as possible.
  • Outline a daily plan of what you want to accomplish.
  • Dress at least like it was casual Friday and you were in the office.

Limit distractions

  • Turn all non-work-related notifications off your phone.
  • Invest in some noise-canceling headphones.
  • Hang a “Do Not Disturb” sign on your work area door if necessary.

Take breaks

  • Do not stay chained to your desk!
  • Take breaks like you would if you were in the office.
  • Get your blood circulating by taking a walk around the yard or block.

Working from home can easily dominate your life if you allow it to do so.

At the end of your workday, set yourself to “away”, close your laptop and turn off your office light.

After all, tomorrow is another day.
