Password Security: How Safe Are You?

Foxie knows that there is nothing more important than password security.

Passwords are the first line of defense against cybercriminals whose only goals are to steal what you have and to make your life miserable. Some of my personal information was recently hacked and believe me when I tell you what a pain it is to try and rectify the situation. Contacting creditors and filling out police reports are not fun things to do. Because like most people, I’m sure you don’t have hours to spend trying to set things right.

Foxie wants to make sure that you have a list of things that are imperative to follow to ensure that your passwords cannot be easily compromised.

Why a strong password is vital on all your devices – Creating a strong password can substantially reduce the risk of anyone guessing your password and accessing your data. Compromised passwords are the reason behind most data breaches, resulting in massive financial losses for businesses and individuals.

Your laptop, your iPhone, your iPad, and all your credit card apps, banking apps, Ticketmaster, utilities, etc …. all require strong and UNIQUE passwords. It would be much easier for you to remember just one password  but if a cybercriminal gets ahold of it and uses it to open all your information, you will find yourself in a world of trouble.]

Fear of forgetting complex passwords, especially when you may have several to remember, is a common worry that people have when creating them. Let Foxie help guide you in keeping all your information secure.

Tips to help create a secure password – Creating a secure password doesn’t have to be difficult:

  1. DO NOT reuse passwords. This is very important.
  2. Use a mixture of symbols, numbers, and upper and lowercase letters.
  3. Do not use personal information that can be easily guessed like your pet’s name or birthdays.
  4. Use a password generator and save all your passwords in a password vault, such as RoboForm, NordPass, or 1password.

Suggestions on how to protect your passwords – Your web browser has the capacity to store and remember passwords, which can cause security issues depending on the security settings of your browser. Password managers make it easy to use a secure password for every account by automatically generating them. By using a master password, you will be able to access those passwords.

This may seem like common knowledge, but never write down your password or share it with anyone. If you absolutely must share your password, use a password manager to do so. The best case scenario would be if your password manager has a time-limited sharing option for you to use. Always be wary of texts, emails or phone calls asking for your password.

Lastly, we have found a password vault to be an invaluable tool. A password vault is an encrypted digital web vault within a password manager that stores online login credentials, documents, images, and other sensitive information. You would then just need to enter a single master password that decrypts the vault and grants access
