Are You A Salesperson Or A Problem Solver?
In the past, when you heard the word “salesperson” did you typically think of someone slick and very persuasive whose only focus was to make the sale and collect their commission? I did ...and sometimes still do.
Foxie realizes you do not want your salespeople to be perceived this way, so we have some helpful tips to ensure that they aren't.
Today’s top salespeople realize that they need to be problem solvers at the core. When you sell someone something that they don't need or doesn't fix their problem, what are the ramifications? It causes resentment towards the person who sold them the product, as well as the business that sold it to them.
So what differentiates the two approaches? Let’s take a look:
The Salesperson (DON'T be this person)
Motivation
- Driven by hitting their sales goals
- Selling whatever they can to make money.
Technique
- Relies on product features and sales tactics.
- Focuses on the product, not the customer’s needs.
Connection to Customer
- Strictly transactional.
- Making the sale takes precedence over long-term relationships.
Now let’s examine what The Problem Solver focuses on (you DO want to be this person)
Motivation
- Building a lasting customer relationship.
- Understanding the customers' needs/wants and providing a real solution.
Technique
- Actively listens to what the customer is asking for.
- Provides a solution to the customer’s needs…not their own.
Connection to Customer
- Friendly, caring, and collaborative.
- Works to achieve a mutually beneficial outcome.
You've now seen the comparison between a salesperson and a problem solver. Which one do you think has the more successful career and happier customers?
Verdict: Be a Problem Solver
The Problem Solver thinks of the big picture while building trust and loyalty.
